The Front-End Web Developer Nanodegree Program program has officially started! Due to the challenge course I took earlier in the year a portion of the nanodegree program is already completed. This means that the first few weeks may seem like I’m zipping through the course really fast when in fact I’ve already completed many of the lessons and problem sets. I will be going back over a few of the lessons I completed previously for a refresher though not everything. Most of the HTML lessons were something I was already familiar with even the first time around.
The Front-End Nanodegree has 5 sections and a 4 optional ones – 3 of these are career focused.
- Web Foundations (HTML, CSS, Responsive design…)
- Web Programming with JavaScript (JavaScript, git, version control, DOM..)
- Exploring JS – Object, Tools and Testing (Accessibility, testing, optimization)
- Front-End Applications
- Building with React
- Extracurricular (jQuery, security) (25% complete)
- Career – Job Search Strategies
- Career – Networking
- Career – Front-End Interview Practice
In future blog posts you will see me refer to this program as FEND (front-end nanodegree.) I have an initial goal of doing at least one post per week to summarize my learning and progress. Udacity does show progress as percent completion so I will include that as well to show my current progress each week.
I’m still working on figuring out my ideal assignment schedule and how best to tie it in with other resources I will be using to learn in parallel. In addition to FEND I’m also slowly moving through The Complete Web Developer in 2018: Zero to Mastery by Andrei Neagoie which I highly recommend. He is extremely engaged with the learning community around his product. I purchased Andrei’s course when Udemy was discounting their courses. Note: Udemy is different than Udacity. Udemy offers a lot of free, low cost and quality courses on Web Development and many other topics as well. Udemy frequently discounts courses 80-90% so I recommend waiting until they have a sitewide discount to get the best deals.
That’s it for now. I’ll post again soon with my FEND Week 1 update.
